STAGE 1 - FROM DONOR TO ROLLING CHASSIS (100 hours)



5th January Citroen 2CV6 Special delivered

Engine capacity: 602 cc

Reg. number: B 935 VVS

Date of Registration: 1.10.84.

9 former keepers

6th January Removed doors, roof/rear panel, bonnet,wings, seats and stored on patio.
7th January Removed seat runners, heater conduits, mirror, visor, carpet, mats, heater control, air filter, battery, instruments, coil, horn, fan cover.

Labelled wires.

Cut out handbrake ratchet.

Removed gear linkage.

Unbolted rest of body.

8th January Removed VIN plate, removed pedal assembly, master cylinder, steering column (had to angle grind steering lock mechanism), rear seat belt anchorages, fog-light bracket, brake-lines.

Removed body.

Cut up with angle grinder

  This left the original chassis, suspension, fuel tank, engine, transmission and steering
  The Body panels and seats were 're-assembled' on the patio!

Removed petrol tank, petrol tank sender and front petrol pipes.

10th January Removed handbrake quadrant, rear cross-member, rear brake-lines, bleed nipples, front bumper, axle cross-member bolts, engine mounting bolts. By using bricks, a metal bar and a trolley jack, manoeuvred chassis away from engine/gearbox/front suspension. Bricks were put under the suspension and engine. Took eyebolts, rear suspension arms (with brakes intact), steering column and steering lock assembly for modification to Lomax.
11th January New chassis delivered.
  Dismembered body and chassis taken away.
12th January Removed fan bolt, fan cowl, wiring from engine, condenser and alternator.

Collected from Lomax: modified rear swinging arms, eyebolts, torsion bar, steering column/lock, 3 replacement suspension can gaiters, new petrol tank, new brake pipes, borrowed hub spanner.

Drilled out rivets from brake fixing plates.

13th January Converted spring 'can' double-ended bolts to single bolts. Removed fuel pipe leads, earth leads, carburettor, cut off exhaust swan neck from carburettor. Removed oil filler/breather and fan pulley and took to Lomax for modification. Assembled rear brake at Lomax and refitted hub nut with large tool.
14th January Fitted new chassis using same method as removal.

Partially reassembled spring 'cans' and cleaned axles.

  Smoothed rough seams of suspension arms with angle grinder.
  Painted rear axle, both rear suspension arms, torsion anti-roll bar, petrol tank, spring cans with black Hammerite.
15th January

Cleaned suspension rods ready for silver paint.

Cleaned and greased rear suspension.

Refitted rear suspension, torsion bar, rear wheel and lengthened eyebolts.

Fitted rear brake pipe from wheel through and out of axle (including brake fittings on end and inside axle tube).

17th January Bought 2 newish Michelin X tyres on new wheels, 3 spring can rubber gaiters, 1 outer universal joint gaiter from Lomax.

Fitted and adjusted suspension gaiters. Fitted new wheels. Cleaned 2 shock absorbers. Dismantled front shock absorbers from axle plate (to be taken to Lomax for modification for anti-roll bar).

18th January Took axle plates to Lomax for modification to anti-roll bar (also eyebolt for replacement). Removed burrs from front suspension arms with angle grinder. Cleaned engine, gearbox, axle and shock absorbers.
19th January Fixed axle.

Painted front suspension arms and axle black (Hammerite)

Painted suspension, driveshafts and trackrods silver.
